It does look suspiciously like the South Carolina Board of Trustees displays the very kind of racism that they want to pretend doesn't exist. They should reconsider their decision and provide Nikole Hannah-Jones with tenure at the beginning of the 2021-2022 academic year.

I’m signing because this is where I got my undergrad and it’s a disgrace

Denying this eminently qualified woman tenure is at best awful optics, particularly at this time in our history, worst blatantly racist. You need to take your responsibility to this University and its history seriously. Do the right thing for once. Offer this woman tenure.

Institutional racism needs to be called out and expunged.

As an alumnus of UNC (M.A. 1991), I am alarmed by their unconscionable choice to deny Nikole Hannah-Jones tenure with her appointment. Please join us in signing this position to demand her tenure appointment!

I'm signing because I believe that because of Nikole-Hannah Jones numerous contributions both to UNC and to our society, including implementing the 1619 Project, that she definitely deserves tenure. Please reconsider your decision.

As an alumnus and donor, I am devastated to see the impact of the biased conservative Board of Governors that have been appointed to pressure our public universities to eliminate free thought and academic debate. We are allowing legislatures like Phil Berger to do everything in their power to destroy public education in NC. We need to elect leaders that attended public schools and work for the people - not dictators like Berger who are products of private school and want to indoctrinate through our schools.
