Prohibit Smoking on Campus
Cigarette smoke is the #1 leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. Furthermore, the U.S. Surgeon General affirms that there is no safe level of exposure to second-hand smoke. We, the undersigned, believe that everyone has the right to learn and/or work without harmful exposure to a Class A carcinogen. For that reason, the purpose of this petition is to prohibit the use of smoking tobacco products within the campus of University of Nebraska at Omaha. This would include all buildings, parking structures, campus walkways, and university-owned vehicles.
UNO would be well within their legal rights to ban the use of tobacco products on campus property. Furthermore, UNO has an ethical responsibility to implement policies that benefit the health and well-being of it's students, faculty and visitors. It would be in UNO's best interest to follow the example of hundreds of other universities around the U.S. that have made their campus's healthier, happier environments by banning the use of smoking tobacco.
Sign and share this petition to have the University of Nebraska at Omaha become a completely smoke-free environment. Once we reach our goal of 1,500 signatures we will bring our request to UNO's Senate.
