As an athletic department, Mizzou profits off of sports that capitalize on black bodies. It is necessary for Mizzou's athletic department staff to reflect the diversity we have among our student-athletes. Furthermore, we need our counselors and psychologists to reflect that as well. It is imperative that we have a black psychologist to communicate and guide this young generation of black athletes and black staff members. As a former student-athlete and employee, I have experienced racial and gender inequities in this athletic department. I lacked the comfortability to see a psychologist who could share and relate to the same struggles that I have endured and continue to fight through.

There are numerous issues black members of the athletic department face on a daily basis that we have to handle in predominantly white led spaces. We need the resources to help us deal with our racial trauma, giving language to the issues we have gone through and continue to experience. These resources will help give us strength and resilience to combat the issues of systemic racism in the fight for equity in America. Mizzou’s athletic department strives to create a diverse environment, and hiring a black psychologist on staff will aid in lifting up its black members. This will lead us into the future as we recognize the trauma racial injustice causes and to take purposeful steps to care for the student-athletes and staff members' overall well being. A black psychologist is essential in providing black men and women with relatable and experiential wisdom that can change the lives of athletes and staff members for the better.
