Divest the University of Missouri System from Fossil Fuel Companies

This petition had 342 supporters

Because it is unconscionable to pay for our education with investments that are both financially risky and environmentally hazardous, we call on the University of Missouri system to immediately freeze any new investments in fossil-fuel companies and to totally divest within the next 5 years. This removes our approval as an institution towards the leading cause of climate change, which is already threatening the livelihood of peoples all across the planet (particularly those in the Global South). Furthermore, divesting protects our system's funds from becoming dependent on assets that will, inevitably, become stranded as fossil fuel reserves are depleted. It comes down to a matter of responsibility: we must divest.
