University of Minnesota Undergraduate Student Gov't started this petition to University of Minnesota

Data shows that the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities on-campus minimum wage for student workers has, on average, only increased 36 cents in the past three years. However, during this time, students have faces consistent increases in tuition rates. The City of Minneapolis passed an ordinance in the summer of 2018 that raised the minimum wage to $15. Shortly after that, the City of St. Paul passed a similar ordinance.

Due to the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities's autonomy in setting wages for student workers, a critical disconnect exists between the on-campus minimum wage for student workers and the two main cities that surround campus. In 2018, student activists engaged in conversations with now President-Emeritus Eric Kaler and members of the Board of Regents on the issue of increased wages for student workers. It was President-Emeritus Kaler's belief that wages earned by student workers was a form of tuition aid. Data demonstrates that engaging in on-campus activity increases graduation rates. Whether students work an on-campus job to help pay their tuition or to supplement cost of living expenses, such bold disparities shouldn't exist between on-campus and off-campus employment.

Please sign this petition to show President Joan Gabel that you are in support of raising the minimum wage for student workers to become equal to that of our neighboring major cities.
