Increase Funding for University of Michigan Counseling and Psychological Services

Recently, we lost a beautiful life at the University of Michigan. A life that didn't realize how many people loved him. A life that could still be here right now.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24. While we can no longer save his life, there are still many others to be saved. One factor that could greatly alleviate mental health issues on our campus would be increasing the scope of CAPS, our primary service for treating mental illness. Currently, wait times to make appointments here are approximately 3 weeks long, which is not very beneficial to those that are suffering NOW. If funding for CAPS is increased, more staff members can be hired so more students can make appointments and work through their hardships.
In order to make our campus a more conducive environment to preventing tragedies like this from occurring, mental health services should be made a priority so that those suffering from depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders can get the help that they need. Please spread the word so we can make a difference in our community and support our fellow Wolverines! The more signatures we get, the more it will show our administration that we truly care about this issue and would like to improve accessibility to mental health help.
On a separate side note: Be a kind person. Say hi to a stranger. Never forget to tell your loved ones how much you care about them. We often forget that the people around us could be facing struggles larger than we could ever imagine. May this individual rest in peace.
