Increase the specificity of descriptions for Campus Crime Alerts

This is important in order to promote cultural competency and decrease the potential for racial profiling on the University campus.

Letter to
University of Miami Emergency Notification Network
It has been brought to the attention of the United Black Students at the University of Miami that the Emergency Notifications distributed en masse to students at the university are not only extremely vague, and unreliable, but also may encourage racial profiling. A description that only includes the suspect's race cannot be tolerated at a diverse and culturally aware university.

Other universities that had similar issues with vague crime descriptions, example Northwestern University, took active steps to increase the quality of the descriptions and avoid any possible racial profiling that could occur as a result of the notifications. Be it resolved, the United Black Students at the University of Miami urge the administration to evaluate the current system in place for distributing suspect descriptions to the university population.
