Specialty libraries like this often have books, etc. that public libraries have tossed for low circulation. For deceased authors, this may be the only place their works can be obtained for free.

My great uncle, Reggie French was an antique dealer and collector and lover of books who lived in Amherst, Mass. I'm signing because he would be outraged at the loss of a library

As an alum I urge the university to preserve this collection and also to continue to provide space for groups to meet and access it.

I'm signing because I love SF/Fantasy. Also I'm a former librarian and used to be in charge of a major university science fiction/fantasy collection. The students and everyone on campus who loves the genre deserve to have access to these books.

As an undergraduate (briefly) and again as a grad student in the 1980s, I thought the science fiction library was one of the best things about UMass. For me, it was an essential not only a source of reading matter but a quiet refuge from the ambient noise and bustle, and the sometimes very crass ambient social scene, at the university. It would be deeply unfortunate if it were to disappear.
