UMBC Social Work Students Honors Recognition

Honors are based upon coursework taken over the duration of a student’s entire undergraduate academic career at UMBC. To be eligible for Honors, students must have earned at least 60 graded credits at UMBC (excluding Pass/Fail) with a corresponding GPA.
Due to pass/fail courses not counting towards 60 graded credits many social work transfer students will not be able to graduate with Honors. Field Placement credits (12 credits) are pass/fail and are a mandatory requirement to graduate. Social work students work in the community for a total of 40 hours per each credit, to meet the required 240 hours for field, per semester. We pay standard tuition credits, we work hard for our high GPA, why should field credits not be recognized towards the earned, graded 60 credits?
As social work students we advocate for our clients on a daily basis, now is the time to advocate for ourselves and our classmates. The goal of this petition is to create a change in the University Honors Recognition Program and to allow our hard work to be recognized at graduation.
