I am a MA Sociology Student and the strike heavily affected my contact with my lecturers. Given that our final assignments for this semester are due in early May, I am worried that my performance will not be as good as it could have been, had I received the correct amount of contact with my lecturers. In a sense, I have had to teach myself some of the syllabus, which, at a Masters Level, is not easy.

I gave up a lot to study for my MA at Manchester, leaving my steady job and struggling to support myself. I took out a ten thousand pound loan and my course has not been value for money, partly due to missing out on a substantial amount of lecture time as well as delays in essay feed back and vital forms for my dissertation. I support the lecturers but I also believe that we as students have paid for a service that we have not received.

My daughter is affected, in her final year and no tutors to talk to about her dissertation.

The students should get what they paid for. If you ordered a Ferrari and got a Ford you’d want a refund. Same principle.

We have all been massively affected by the strikes. Despite the fact I agree that our lecturers have the right to be given fair pensions, it has been unfair especially towards those of us who have had deadlines. The university should have to pay for us missing teaching because they are treating our lecturers so badly they feel the only action they can take is striking.

You get fined for taking children out of school during term time so you should be compensated if you miss out through no fault of your own, especially if you are paying for your education.
