More on this petition:
Final year University of Liverpool students have been denied an in person graduation in July 2021 due to Covid-19 excuses. With restrictions easing on the 17th May and ending on the 21st June, following the Prime Minister's announcement, there is NO justification for the University of Liverpool to deny their 2021 cohort of a in person graduation week commencing 19th July. They have ignored suggestions such as having the ceremony outside, or splitting it into smaller groups, instead they have offered us a virtual graduation, even though restrictions would have ended 4 weeks prior. The 2021 cohort has gone through one of the worst University experiences over the past 24 months. We have gone through 3 sets of strikes (including the one about to happen, disrupting our final assessments), had to spend the past 18 months virtually learning with no extra support, had to carry on paying rent for accommodation we where not living in or having to stay in these rooms whilst being completely isolated and we have just received this news during the FINAL assessments/ exam period informing us that we will not be graduating. Our learning experience has been diminished over the past 18 months due to online learning, now our graduation is virtual, denying us of the chance to celebrate with friends and family and get the true graduation experience. After learning that other Universities will be going ahead with in person graduations including other Liverpool Universities such as John Moores, we feel like we have been denied the final celebration of our time at University although there is no justification for this cancellation. We deserve this opportunity to bring together our hard work and celebrate our achievements through the pandemic. We urge you to sign this petition and help the 2021 cohort get the graduation we deserve.
