Orla Connolly started this petition to University of Liverpool (Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education)

The University of Liverpool has made the decision to close the Sydney Jones Library from 14 January onwards, with absolutely NO warning or communication with the students who are relying on the (at least) 180 study spaces that are available in that library.

For many students, including myself, we RELY on these study spaces to revise, complete our coursework, use the computers and continue with our studies in an already stressful and overwhelming environment in which we are being forced to study and take our exams in. Not only are these study spaces essential for many people's learning, they are also a huge part of what is keeping many students going in terms of their mental health and motivation to learn. It is simply not possible to be successful in your studies if you are confined to learning and working in your house. A second environment to study in outside of your home is CRUCIAL for people's mental wellbeing and academic success.

Not only will ALL arts and humanities students suffer because of this decision, but so will all clinical/science students who are currently studying on campus, as the amount of people who will attempt to book a space in Harold Cohen/other available spaces will increase HUGELY, meaning that everyone will be affected by this decision.

We are not paying £9,250 a year in tuition fees not only to be taught completely online, but now for the study spaces which many students rely on to be taken away from us. Please sign this petition in order to facilitate the learning of humanities students, maintain the availability of study spaces for clinical/science students and protect the MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING of all students who rely on the Sydney Jones library.
