The University of Kentucky has been deeply impacted due to COVID-19. Furthermore, the MSW cohort of 2021 is saddened and distraught to hear that other cohorts have been accommodated in that they will be required to complete less practicum hours while the MSW cohort of 2021 is still expected to have their practicum hours completed (300 hours) by 05/03/2020. At this time, there has been no discussion to reduce the amount of hours or extend the deadline for the MSW cohort of 2021. We believe that the College of Social Work should demonstrate fairness and equality by granting a reduction in practicum hours or extending the deadline of completion to 05/31/2020 in order to accommodate the MSW cohort of 2021. The University of Kentucky staff, students, and faculty have all been severely affected by the current pandemic. We believe this act of accommodation would benefit the students in the MSW cohort of 2021 and allow them to better manage their schoolwork while also tending to their families in this time of crisis.
