sophia zimmerman started this petition to University of Houston · President Renu Khator

Although University of Houston is a commuter campus and many of its students don’t live on campus. Normally around 6,000 students would live on campus under normal circumstances. Currently the student who live on campus don’t have the option to recycle their trash or composite it. Signing this petition would mean you would like University of Houston President Renu Khator and UH housing to implement a project by the start of next school year so that students who live on campus can recycle and composite their trash.

The average American produces 300 pounds of trash each year and with students spending most of their year on campus aren’t able to divert trash from the landfills and oceans to be reused. This means last year almost 1,200,000 pounds of trash went into lands fill just from University of Houston students and none of it was recycled. Although not all items sent to be recycled can actually be recycled, more trash has been sent to landfills and our oceans this year due to Covid-19 and the increased use of single use plastics and as future leaders we should try to reduce are waste as much as possible.
