We, the undersigned students of ARTH1510 F20 formally request the immediate cessation of the use of the Respondus Lockdown Browser for this course. As a class, we have major concerns and doubts about the ability of technology to reliably and fairly complete the task of proctoring exams. Prior to the start of this course, it was clearly stated that students may use their notes for midterms, and it is unethical to change this so late into the course, and force students to use software that they are concerned about. Some institutions such as McGill University have sufficient concerns about respondus and other similar technologies that they explicitly asked their professors not to use it.

We recognize the need to maintain academic integrity, however, we are concerned that this is being achieved not by our institution located in Canada, but by a private company located outside of Canada. We request the course instructor and the university seek alternate modes of evaluations.

We ask that those signing are currently enrolled in ARTH*1510 at the University of Guelph in the F20 semester, and if possible, to use your uoguelph email.
