Jamie Fournier started this petition to University of Guelph

The University of Guelph has decided for the 2019/2020 school year that they no longer need 18 parking lots for students and staff and have cut down the number of student parking lots by more than half. This poses many issues as the school tends to have a large commuting population from nearby cities and towns. Not to mention that not every student lives near accessible public transport and they may also not possess the physical abilities to walk or bike. Who is UofG to judge why students need parking passes?

The reasons stated by the university include that there are many spots as is (there are not), and that they want to reduce the number of cars being driven to school. Many students have had to miss class due to not being able to find parking despite the university thinking 7 parking lots for students (in residence or commuting) is enough. For a school with a population of 30k this is not enough. Paying over 14k a year for school, a student should have the right to go to classes that they are paying for. Also if the university cares about what single car pollution does to their carbon footprint they should consider not investing in fossil fuels to have a greater impact.

Please consider signing this even if you are not commuting or don't attend UofG as I don't think it's fair given students are paying a lot of money to be here and they may not even get to attend class due to our parking situation.
