University of Florida: Create an inclusive housing option on campus!
Currently, the University of Florida Department of Housing and Residence Education assigns rooms by sex. Only students of the same sex are able to choose to live together in on-campus housing, aside from special accommodations of need for transgender students.
The Gators Coalition for an Inclusive Campus does not think the current housing options fully serve the needs of our students. We propose the creation of an inclusive housing option, which would allow students to opt-in and mutually select roommates and/or suitemates of any gender in designated halls on campus. Inclusive housing could benefit all students, by allowing them to live with people that care about and support them, regardless of gender. Students already choose to live off-campus in multi-gender spaces, so why not give them the same opportunity in the heart of the Gator Nation?
Over 125 of the nation's universities offer inclusive housing already. By signing this petition, you can help the University of Florida join this distinguished group. Please sign to show your support for our proposal.
