The university of Edinburgh has just revealed their plan for the 2021/22 academic year which "requires all students to return to campus in September".

Students cannot apply to study online unless it is illegal for them to travel back to the city. This will require all international students (who pay the highest fees) and students with health conditions to travel back to the university and mingle with thousands of others, many of whom will be unvaccinated.

This is extremely irresponsible and unfair as the UK is in the middle of an outbreak with the delta variant, which will undoubtedly worsen as students return to campus.

Students should be given the option to study online or in person, whichever best suits their needs instead of being required to return and subsequently risk their health or their lives. Lectures were recorded before the Covid19 pandemic, and more recent 'hybrid' teaching was introduced to allow students to learn from the safety of their own homes, so there is no reason why this shouldn't be an option for students again.
