Dundee University enables students to - 1. learn and develop German language skills, 2. engage with German culture and 3. thereby understand their first languages and cultures better. Alumni contribute to science, research, trade, and diplomacy with Germany. More German is needed, not less!

I think it's important to ensure that students continue to have an opportunity to study foreign languages at British Universities.

Learning German at Dundee led to wonderful opportunities both at uni and then during my professional career over the past 20 years. Languages open doors, both inner and outer, the world over. Pity the institution that forgets this.

The British people already have a bad reputation regarding speaking other languages. Familiarity with other modern languages is vital today in our globalised culture.

Languages are so important in a society that is becoming too selfish and self-centered. Saving German at the University of Dundee is essential for the staff, for students, for lovers of this language - and there are many! Come on Dundee University, do not become the best-loved campus just for your after hour fun, but also for the essential subjects you bring to your community of students!

I believe that language teaching provision at Dundee should be protected and available to undergraduate students from first year onwards.

As a Scots Law with French graduate, I know that I would not have chosen to study at UoD if languages had not been available. Lack of language teaching provision will make UoD less attractive to undergraduates compared to other Scottish universities, for both UK, international and Erasmus students, who are often required to continue studies in a third foreign language during their time abroad.

Language learning offers not only increased employability but also different perspectives and opportunities. It would be incredibly sad if UoD students were denied this.
