Students of UD started this petition to University of Dallas Administration and

Every academic year, the University of Dallas increases tuition by 5%. In light of the economic downturn, a 5% increase in tuition is a large burden on students and their families. Many of us have lost internships or research opportunities, and we rely on these to pay tuition. I ask that the University halt tuition increases during this time. Many students at the University of Dallas have appreciated the small, immersive environments offered by in-class teaching. The global situation has caused universities to switch to an online based learning environment. There is no doubt that the faculty at the University of Dallas are excellent and many have quickly transitioned to online education. However, at the end of the day, online education is not the same as in-person education. I hope that the University of Dallas has not adopted a business model where, no matter what happens, you have to pay the same amount. The cost needs to reflect the realities of the situation. The price of tuition reflects the promise of in-class teaching, and without that, the price of tuition should not be as high as $20,830 for a semester. Inability to deliver on this promise is inevitable given the situation, but the University must make some compromise since they are unable to deliver on this promise anymore.
