Why this petition matters

Started by Alexandra Gibbins

Students at every University are expected to carry on as normal during the current crisis. Many students are having to deal with home schooling their children, working on the front line, caring for other family members and sitting down and completing university work. Final year students, are finding it increasingly hard, to complete work to a high standard, while living through an international pandemic! Students are struggling with their mental health! We are being expected to carry on as normal, which in the current climate is proving increasingly hard and complicated!

We’re proposing, a no disadvantage policy in the University of Cumbria, where if students do not what to complete work, they are able to get their final grades from a combination of grades throughout the years. If students want to hand in work they are able to, which the acknowledgement that, circumstances have changed and this might not be their best work!

How are we expected to carry on as ‘business as usual’, it’s unprecedented, unacceptable and frankly hard to achieve! Lack of support is one of the main reasons as to why, students are feeling increasingly stressed and worried as they are unable to approach tutors. Many individuals have applied for a postgraduate course who are relying on a 2.1 to go and study, however, with the stress and worry, that we have been subjected to, is increasingly detrimental to our studies!
