Support victims of sexual assault on UConn's campus and punish those who cause it.
Enough is enough. Far too many students have experienced sexual assault on UConn's campus and far too many have reported UConn doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it. By doing nothing, UConn is actively giving the green light for these assaults to continue. I am tired of this bullshit and you should be too.
UConn also continues to support clubs/organizations with well known histories of sexual assault. This includes some of the fraternities and even sports teams on campus. UConn should only support organizations who have been proven to follow all guidelines regarding "protect our pack." By supporting organizations who fail to live up to these standards, and failing to audit their policies surrounding sexual assault, they are making it known that it is ok for men (and in rare cases even women) to physically and emotionally assault other students on campus without ANY RECOURSE WHATSOEVER.
I Am mad and you probably are too. But herein lies our opportunity to show UConn that this is unacceptable and for UConn to move from the TOP COLLEGE IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASES to the college with the lowest incident rate. And instead become the TOP COLLEGE in providing resources and support for sexual assault victims by both UConn itself and student led organizations. Herein lies our opportunity to show other colleges and the world that we WILL NOT TOLERATE this behavior, that NO MEANS NO, and that those who offend must face consequences for their actions. Herein lies our opportunity to make the lives of many women (and even some men) better and more safe.
UConn claims they take pride in keeping students safe and I hope they decide to stick to their word. In order to do that they must DISOWN and/or RESTRUCTURE all organizations who are found to PROMOTE and/or fail to denounce sexual violence. They must also PROPERLY punish those who offend and BREAK THE LAW by persisting to violate some else's boundaries without CLEAR CONSENT.
If UConn does not do this, no one on campus is safe and they cannot in good faith claim to have "The safest campus in America." Quote: WFSB news (wfsb.com).
I leave you with the words of an anonymous whistleblower which explains UConn's stance on the issue right now.
"UConn and Reslife design their programs around their image, they do not care about student safety. I work on campus and our trainings are out of date. We treat sexual assault as if a students trauma disappears once we are done filing paperwork."~ A whistleblower
