University of Connecticut students are entitled to a partial tuition reimbursement for the Spring 2020 semester. This applies to not only students living on-campus but study abroad and commuter students as well. Beginning on Monday, March 23, UConn will move to online course delivery for classes held at the Storrs campus, regional campuses and the School of Law. It is expected this will remain the case until at least Monday, April 6. On Tuesday, March 17, the President issued coursework to be delivered online for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester due to the growing COVID-19 pandemic. For those students who have moved off-campus, we demand compensation for the tuition and fees we are no longer benefiting from at this time. In addition to on-campus housing and meal plan fees, students are charged with technology and rec center fees which they do not find useful given that all programs and activities have been suspended indefinitely. Study abroad students should also be compensated for their tuition dollars since they will no longer be using on-site facilities they were originally paying to attend. Likewise, commuter students should see their parking fees lifted. UConn students are currently paying for services they cannot benefit from and demand to be partially compensated. With the decision to move to online course delivery, students should not be paying for in-person class instruction. Until normal classes resume at all UConn campuses, we ask for a partial compensation for our tuition dollars. We hope that the UConn administration will fulfill our request and ease some of the financial burden many of our students and families face in these turbulent times.
