Why this petition matters

Started by Meha Khanna

On March 16th, 2021 eight people were killed at three separate spas in North Georgia. Six of the people were Asian and all but one were women. These murders were absolutely motivated by race and gender and based on the broader rise of violence against the Asian community in the past year and in relation to COVID-19. Since March 2020, there have been 3,800 reports of anti-Asian hate. This hate and discrimination is a representation of how deeply rooted white supremacy is in this nation. CU Boulder needs to acknowledge the historic oppression and violence against Asian communities and stand with the Asian students as well as all BIPOC students that attend CU Boulder. The violence against BIPOC communities creates fear and trauma for students. The voices of students of Color needs to be amplified and allyship needs to be shown on behalf of CU Boulder as an institution. The University of Colorado, Boulder needs to acknowledge the recent hate crimes and offer resources for BIPOC students during these difficult times.
