Why this petition matters

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the majority of national exams have been cancelled, or a fair grading policy has been out in place for AS, A levels and GCSEs, and eligible vocational and technical qualifications. University students were eligible for the 'no detriment policy' for academic year 19-20, but we have not been given anything to secure the degree we have worked so hard for in 20-21.

As university students who pay up to £9250 a year to attend, we would like some protection of our grades, so we do not receive a lower mark and/or final classification due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As of today, England has entered a third lock down, which means schools are closed, as well as some business' and a lot of students are now having to work from home as well as home school their children on top of completing their studies. Some students are key workers who are fighting the pandemic as well as students.

We have already lost out on vital parts of our education, such as not being able to complete placements, lack of face to face teaching, missed employment opportunities and the final grade awarded at the end of level 6 is all some students may have to show their future employers, so we need some form of protection to secure the grades we have worked so hard for.

What are we asking for?

We want a fair lenient grading policy in place for the University of Chester which takes into account previous grades and reflects the hard work students have committed to their education.

We do not want to be penalised because of the pandemic.
