It is time to put an end to the categorization of menstrual products as "luxury" items. 76% percent of UC Berkeley students have gotten their period on campus and have not had any menstrual products on hand. 58% of students claim that being stuck on campus without menstrual products has negatively impacted their student experience. 43% of students state that menstrual products are a financial burden for them.

Menstrual products are a necessity to the well being of many students nationwide and are a sanitary solution for basic biological processes just like toilet paper. We feel that menstrual products should be provided in the same capacity that toilet paper is provided on campus.

Many people simply do not have access to these items. Because UC Berkeley does not offer free pads and tampons, students are forced to go home early or skip class completely when their cycle starts unexpectedly. A normal biological process should not impede the education of those who cannot afford such products or because there are not adequate supplies on campus.

LFC wants UC Berkeley to provide its students with the necessary menstrual products. Providing these items would eliminate a barrier to a student's ability to study and excel.

We're already behind. Other universities who have already brought free tampons and pads to their campus include:
-Brown University
-Harvard
-University of Arizona
-Columbia University
-And others.

Please sign LFC's petition to help us bring awareness to the lack of accessibility on campus and to put pressure on our campus leadership to enact these changes. All it takes is a couple of minutes.

LFC is also hosting UC Berkeley's FIRST EVER Menstrual Rights Symposium on February 22, 2020 from 10am-4pm (PST) on UC Berkeley's campus. Make sure to follow us on FB and Instagram (@lfcberkeley) for event details, or click here: tinyurl.com/MenstrualRights2020 ! Hope to see you there.
