While current international students are allowed to stay in the United States while pursuing a program of study that is 100% online, new international students need at least one in-person class to be granted a visa and entry into the US. This poses a great challenge for many students, in part because of the timezone differences between California and the many countries where UCLA’s international students are from.

We, incoming international freshmen, would like UCLA to tend to this issue by simply creating any class/course/seminar/fiat lux course that would be on-site and be specifically designed for international students to take, to ensure that we have a shot at being on campus in the fall and that we are not at a disadvantage compared to in-state students.

This petition is not asking much of UCLA. We’re merely asking for the creation of an on-site class to allow us to be granted a legal status when entering the United States of America. This class could literally be anything -  a seminar, a fiat lux class, we could meet to follow the DCISS iSTART program in person rather than online, anything!
