Refund University of Bath Students during the UCU Strike Action
0 have signed. Let’s get to 2,500!
Bath university students are currently paying for an education they are not receiving, we the undersigned are requesting a refund of tuition fees for students effected by the UCU strike action.
Whatever you think of the strikes, you should sign this petition:
- The aim of the strike is to cause disruption to the university governance, by making them pay out to us we'll be maximising the effectiveness of the strike action.
- A majority of students are against the strike action as shown by the SU's recent poll. If you want to ensure you're not suffering for a cause you don't believe in sign now!
Many students at Bath are missing out due to academic staff taking part in the ongoing UCU strike action. The timing of this action has been damaging and disruptive to the studies of students at the University of Bath.
There are 25 weeks in the academic year (not including Freshers Week). Given fees are £9,250 for UK/EU students, that's £370 per working week, or £74 per working day when students should be able to reach their lecturers for lectures, seminars, tutorials or simply academic or pastoral support; and receive the service they are paying for.
When on strike, lecturers withdraw their labour and are therefore not available to fulfil their contractual teaching duties. It is not unreasonable to assert that the University has failed to meet its obligations under the natural contract it makes with students when inviting them to join and pay their fees. Given this, for each day there is a strike, students could reasonably claim they are owed a refund of £74. The cost is significantly more for students paying international fees.
We hope the University council will acknowledge and consider this request and the views of the students of the University of Bath.
