The University of Auckland has the unique opportunity of being able to be seen as proactive in renewable energy and as New Zealand’s prominent university, with its strong business connections locally, nationally and internationally can potentially foster a paradigm shift in energy use. The University currently advocates the use of sustainability though the availability of courses and university management dedicated in this area. “The University of Auckland is committed to pursuing sustainability via environmental excellence”; In fact, AU has strived to reduce its energy consumption over the last decades. In 2010, it claimed to use 47% less energy per full- time students than the level in early 1980s, by upgrading to more efficient equipment and lights, application of energy efficiency in new building, shutting down buildings after hours (AU Website on Environment).
It is our goal to see an Auckland University with an acceptance of a 100% sustainability plan by 2020.
