No Detriment Policy for UvA assessments

No Detriment Policy for UvA assessments
Warum ist diese Petition wichtig?
We are calling for University of Amsterdam to follow the footsteps of other top universities, such as University of Exeter, Edinburgh and Warwick by implementing a no-detriment policy for end of year/period exams and assessments. These past week or our university education have been heavily impacted by COVID-19.
This petition is asking the University of Amsterdam to take into account these extraordinary and unprecedented conditions, with the introduction of a no-detriment policy. Many students will be struggling to study due to lack of appropriate working environments and resources, as well as being negatively impacted by mental or physical illness during this difficult time. This no-detriment policy is necessary to ensure an equitable chance at achievement for all students and would ensure a safety-net for all students.
This policy would mean that students would still have to participate in end of year/period assessment, but without the fear that this will negatively impact the grades they have worked so hard towards during the last semesters. Hence, as long as a student obtains a pass mark of 5 grade points in further assessments, their average will remain the same as, or higher than, the average already attained. If students achieve higher than their current average, the final mark/GPA can still be raised.
