Sub: Request for allotment of centres in Koraput Region.
Respected Sir/ Madam,
We, the students of Koraput District, Odisha, are writing this, requesting you to allot centres for UGC-JRF/NET examination in our region.
Sir, Koraput is a district of least literacy in our country (2011 census) and this is due to our economic backwardness and poverty. The earnings are too low in comparison with urban areas. Under such circumstances, it becomes extremely difficult for us to spend Rs.1000 just for applying. Even after applying, we have to travel around 400-600 kms to unknown urban places where centres for the UGC-JRF/NET exams are allotted. We face the problem of accommodation, estranged language, unwanted physical stress and fear of missing the centre. Adding to our plight, the money spent for travelling and accommodation alone exceeds around RS.3000 which for most of us is monthly income of the family. Facing all these, we appear for exams (i.e. if we find our centre) and our performance is badly hit.
In addition to this, the exam centres ask us to be present at the centre at 7:00 am whereas the exam starts at 9:00 am. This discourages most of the students often misleading them. It would have been better if the instructions are given in the line that, “ the applicants should be present 30 minutes before the commencement of exams.”
Sir, this shows a completely unequal competition among urban dwellers and rural inhabitants. Therefore, we request you to kindly allot centres in two established Kendriya vidyalayas in our region:
1) Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sunabeda
2) Kendriya Vidyalaya in Rayagada
Sir, we expect immediate action from you and we believe that our poverty should not be a hindrance to our aspirations.
Thanking you sir,
Yours obediently,
Students of Koraput District,Odisha
