Students need teachers committed to their professions, are trained through coursework, knowledge of pedagogy and have learned how to implement best practices in teaching. Our schools need dedicated, certified Teachers - not TFA stand ins!

I am a professional - college educated, time spent developing my skills and understanding the art of my profession - If someone wants to become a professional educator, put in the time and $ to be trained in our profession.

children need fully trained teachers! And summer school is for at risk children, not for practice teaching!

I prepare teacher candidates at the University of Northern Colorado. They spend four years thinking like teachers, observing teachers, and studying the craft of teaching. They complete three practica BEFORE student teaching. They are assessed for their content and dispositions. They dedicate their 4 years to becoming the best possible teacher of adolescents; they are looking to make teaching a career. I have no issue with those who decide after graduation to become a teachers, but come back to college and complete a full teacher-education program.

I prepare teachers and understand that it takes four years of thinking like a teacher candidate to be prepared to think and act like a teacher.

I want experienced, professional teachers, not kids checking off a box on their college-->career journey.

As an educator who works with adult learners - many from disadvantaged backgrounds - I see the effects of our broken education system everyday. We need deep, committed reform - not slick, profit-driven band-aids.
