We have started this petition in order to call attention to the voices of the UCL students who have been affected by the moving of classes online and the cancellation of exams in term three due to COVID-19.

We strongly feel that we should be entitled to a reduction of our term three tuition or a refund for the substantial amount of classes we have missed or have been carried on in a highly disorganised manner. As a result of irregular classes our learning has been greatly affected, professor feedback has been basically non-existent and as exams have been fully cancelled for first year students, our third term consists solely of a menial capstone assessment. Yet currently we are being asked to pay the full amount of our tuition regardless.

In regards to recent events, although we understand that the UK government has declared that “you should not expect any refund if you are receiving adequate online learning and support,” this was clearly not the case this year. For first year students, many have had most of their classes cancelled or simply not held without any explanation once they were moved online despite professors stating further work was underway.

Therefore, we hope to receive a refund or reduction of our third term fee to compensate for this lack of learning that has been taking place. The academic standards have been far below what students have hoped for and does not seem to reflect what the tuition fee suggests. It raises the question of whether this is the standard of academics UCL promotes and if this was what we have been paying to experience. In a period of crisis such as now, we feel as though UCL should show more sympathy towards students and rightfully reduce the tuition fee for a basically empty and academically lacking term three.

We are aware that this is a complicated issue for both sides, but we hope to receive your support.

Help the UCL students raise their voice!
