Mimi Joy started this petition to UNIVERSITIES

During this time of continued political inequality incited by police criminality and injustice, many university students are experiencing troubling conflicts between continuing studies and participating in the protests, marches, and political movements that demand justice for black people in the United States.

As we continue to learn and mold our experiences from our education, I ask that universities extend accommodations and extensions for students in need during this time. It is nearly impossible for many students to focus on their studies to the necessary level while participating politically.

Students currently enrolled in summer classes are dealing with continued complications from the COVID-19 pandemic and with the corruption and implementation of the police state/ martial law in the United States.

It is the duty of the university to reach out during this time to offer necessary assistance to students. Students like myself cannot divide their energy between: 1.) their education (i.e. completing exams and assignments) 2.) the COVID-19 pandemic 3.) political activism.

In addition to the difficulties that students are going through, it is the job of the university to offer tangible support to black students during this time. Black university students are at risk of violence from the police. Black students must receive care and advocation from universities for which they are paying thousands of dollars.

Signing this petition will urge universities to accommodate students' needs and provide them with academic and emotional help in regards to the political climate.
