Shrek is one of the greatest films of all times, one that transcends the partitions of humanity. It is loved by children and memelords alike, by the rich and the poor, by the single and those in relationships. It is a unique blend of relatable and well made, funny but poignant, simple but meaningful. Shrek also means a lot to me. Shrek has brought me and my friends closer than ever. He was our hero whenever were outcasted. Through our intense, fearless love of Shrek, those around us began to appreciate us for the freaks we were. Shrek may just be a movie, but it’s an important movie to me. I know we aren't alone.

This is why it's so horrible that Universal is closing down the Shrek 4D ride at Universal Studios, Florida. Some of the best moments in my life, moments that have defined my closest friendships, occurred here. There is no need to get rid of it. These places, even if they are now old and no longer as trafficked, represent people's childhood. It is history, a unique form but history nonetheless. Shrek represents the best of Universal. The first picture to win the Oscar for best animated picture. The franchise that made Dreamworks. The story that many 1990/2000s grew up with and helped to define us. 

Destroying this ride is destroying history, both our's and Dreamworks. Shrek is an essential part of our modern identity. I won't let them kill it in silence.
