Gun violence is undoubtedly a very big issue in the United States.  As a student in an American school I have noticed the mutual fear in students and school staff.  Everytime we hear of a school shooting happening the tension increases and we have to plan ahead in each room whether we will run, hide, or fight. We have to think ahead on how we are going to barricade doors, fight with textbooks and scissors, or hope we make it to the door. This is simply and undoubtedly unacceptable. HR8, the Universal Background Check Bill was passed by House on Feb 27, 2019. Since then, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has sat on it for 3 ½ years. Since he has been sitting on this bill, there has been about 1,800 mass shootings in the United State.While prayers, condolences and empathy is offered, change is the only way we can stop the thousands of murders due to gun violence each year. In the United States, there has been mass shootings nearly everyday of 2022 in schools, churches, cemeteries, grocery stores, pretty much anywhere you can go, you are not safe. With each shooting there is the same cycle Mass Shooting>Thoughts and Prayers>Debate on Gun Control> Nobody Actually Doing anything> Life goes "back to normal" until another mass shooting inevitably happens again. We undoubtedly need stricter gun laws. Starting with Universal background checks on all gun owners and purchasers to try and  minimize the amount of dangerous or mentally ill people freely buying guns by preventing their ownership of these fatal weapons.
