Pass legislation to fund gun violence research
The safety of American citizens is of paramount importance.
- Unites States Congress
The unacceptable violence in America should be treated as a public health problem. For years, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has been prevented from conducting research on gun violence as a result of lobbying from the NRA.
President Obama has ordered the CDC and other federal agencies to immediately begin research on gun violence. The biggest problem to getting this process started is that Congress has to give them funding.
Research on traffic accidents and infant deaths has lead to greatly reducing deaths in these instances. Gun deaths should be addressed in a similar manner. It is also vitally important to increase funding and support for existing organizations that are working to reduce violence in America.
Legislation to fund research on gun violence and to fund anti-violence organizations needs to be proposed immediately.
