Beth Clark started this petition to United Teachers of Los Angeles

Our students have encountered some of the most perilous times of their lives this past school year.  Our focus, as educators, has been on lifting their spirits and morale while supporting them in their time of need.  We have achieved this through academics, exciting enrichment opportunities, and dedicating time to focus on their mental well-being through social-emotional lessons.

The Edulastic assessments are completely counter to these goals.  The assessments are punitive and ineffective.  They do not reflect our students' growth and needs.  It is not age appropriate.  It is a lengthy summative test that contains intentionally confusing questions.  The assessment takes several days to complete, taking away valuable learning time.  We, as professional educators, know our students.  We do not need this lengthy summative test to inform us about our students' growth and strengths.

Our students have been through enough.  Many of us have witnessed countless students becoming very emotional in regards to this assessment.  It is completely demoralizing to them.

We ask that the Edulastic assessment be omitted from the district-mandated assessments.  We need to put an end to these types of assessments.  It's time to celebrate our students, not hinder their growth and development.
