Child abuse is a topic that is not brought up as much as it should be. During recent year more and more people are starting to talk about the issues. In 2020, this topic was brought up in the Netflix original The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez Documentary which talks about the abuse he was put through by his mom and her boyfriend as they unfortunately lead him to his death. In the documentary we often see people such as his teacher and the security guard call child protective services. Though, they did go to his house they failed to interrogate him by himself and was instead interrogated with one of his abusers making him unable to leave his environment. This shows that the system is broken as they had many chances to save him before his death and only took action after as the main abuser the boyfriend was sentenced to the death penalty and the mom was sentenced to life in prison. There are many other cases similar to Gabriel's such as AJ Frued case who unfortunately also passed away as he was beaten to death. The court records had shown that his parents allegedly forced AJ to take cold showers and beat him if he were to dirty his underwear, though his parents have plead not guilty to the murder charges of AJ. This is something that needs to be change within the system as there were obvious signs that they were victims of child abuse. We should change the system as it is ridiculous how even a chance if change only happens after the victims die.
