In light of George Floyd, Breyonna Taylor, Ahmaud  Arbery, David McAtee, and so many other’s deaths, it is time for the people who are tired of seeing so many innocent lives gone to stand up.

This petition is to bring change to the length of training that police officers get to wear the badge that is meant to protect our people. Police officers do ONLY 6 months of training, in class without any degree, before they are able to go out to police the streets. If police officers are getting paid more than teachers, hair dressers, cosmetologist, etc and train 3 or more times less than these professions, it should be required that they also obtain at least an Associates Degree. Alongside that degree, after their 6 months of training, it should be required that they receive a brief on firearm handling, self-defense, combat fighting techniques, and proper crisis prevention intervention every 6 months and a full 2-3 day training every year. If members of our military, health care workers, firefighters, and many other professions that are meant to protect lives do it, shouldn’t they be required to do it to. Many people say it’s the lack of education that causes “accidents” or murders like these to happen, so let’s make education in our law enforcement happen.
