Many inmates who are on Death Row go through many changes in their health and personality between the average of number of years the inmate has received. The average number of years an inmate is on Death Row is roughly 15 years so you can see how the inmate’s health could change between these years, as to an inmate catching a form of cancer or any disease and to just wanting to end his/her life on their terms. If a physician was to assist in the suicide for inmates who want to make this choice I believe that they should have this right to their own. Many inmates today do not have the option of a physician assisting suicide because it is not legal in many states so they commit suicide on their own but if we give them the option of a physician-assisted suicide we can help out the correctional officers from dealing with inmates committing suicide. We are also saving states a lot of money because for one inmate to be kept alive just one year it will cost 90,000 dollars to keep this one inmate alive. If the inmate chooses to have a physician assist on his/her suicide and still be in right state of mind while he/she picks this option the money keeping the inmate alive for those roughly 15 years can be used for something else. I believe everyone no matter if they are on the Death Row sentence or not should have their own choice. So if an inmate who is suffering from cancer or any type of diseases and is on Death Row they should not have to deal with the suffering anymore.
