Kevin Ross started this petition to United States Supreme Court and

Treatment of minorities in the United States has been unacceptable for far too long and it is costing lives unnecessarily.  Police officers face a difficult task putting their lives on the line every time they put on the uniform.  In addition, they often see the worst of society and these two things combined create biases and prejudices that result in the grossly unfair treatment of groups within our society nationwide, specifically minority groups and the low-income population.  THIS HAS TO STOP.

As a former law enforcement officer, I know first-hand that there is no training on emotion control and stress management, none.  This is disservice to society because it creates a ticking time bomb that is dangerous to all citizens.  It shows severe negligence on the part of law enforcement agencies nationwide.  Agencies expect their officers to protect and serve but are not providing them with required, ongoing training to deal with the stressors of the job that would allow them to do their intended job.  Those same stressors that create and strengthen new and existing biases and prejudices causing unfair treatment, sometimes leading to grave consequences.  The people of this nation deserve better and THERE IS NO TIME TO WASTE.  This change needs to happen immediately.  Our lives depend on it.

This petition is intended to have legislation introduced that will require ALL law enforcement agencies-including, but not limited to: Police, Sheriff, State Police, Corrections, Parole, and Probation Departments to have mandatory emotions and stress management training conducted at least annually as well as psychological evaluations similar to when officers applied for their positions.  This legislation should further require that the training shall not be conducted in-house but by a contracted outside provider.
