Men are not held to the same degree of responsibility as mothers are in regards to parenting a child when the relationship is no longer existent. Child support is the only recourse a woman has and usually that is nothing compared to the time and effort she uses to raise the child. Men only make the decisions they make because they aren’t being held accountable for their actions. While we all have the right to be with whom we choose, the child and the mother also has rights that go neglected in effort to protect the fathers “freedoms”. We live in a country where we claim that discrimination is illegal, but it’s allowed daily. We need to implement laws that require a father to be active and fiscally responsible for his child(ren) and if he opts out of involvement for his reasons, he is to pay a maximum amount of child support based on the mothers support cost for the child. If the father is deemedmentally incapable of caring for the child or poses a threat for the child he will be assisted with getting inpatient mental health services until deemed safe to be around children. While at first appearance it may seem that this would be costly to tax payers, this act will reduce the number of single parent homes, STD’s ,women receiving public assistance and it will boost the economy and provide stable communities and encourage adults to make more responsible decisions in regards to child-bearing.
