April Clark started this petition to United States Supreme Court

The people that are affected by the vehicle exception law affects everyday citizens, but the main people that are targeted by this exception law are lower class neighborhoods. It's relatively easy for police to gain probable cause to conduct a unwarranted search of a vehicle. The problem we are facing is the infringement on our 4th amendment right. It's also subjecting law abiding citizens of a unconstitutional search of our property. This is a complete disregard to our 4th amendment right as US citizen. This vehicle exception law was put in place by the United States vs Carrol criminal case in the 1920. This law is outdated and all states should adopt the PA. Supreme court ruling that police can no longer rely on probable cause they must also have exigent circumstances before they are allowed to do a unwarranted vehicle search.

The reason this matters is police/courts are abusing this power and exception to deprive people of their constitutional right. These unwarranted vehicle searches happen all over the country and strip people of the little right we have. If police have someone detained and their safety is not in question or evidence of a crime is not in jeopardy it should not inconvenience a police officer to get a search warrant from a detached judge. It might not seem like much or a big deal but these right were put in place to protect us.
