Nullify addition of SCPO and MCPO ranks from Sea Cadets

Achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, is an outstanding accomplishment. Only one percent of all cadets achieve this rank. The additions of Senior Chief Petty Officer and Master Chief Petty Officer have already caused a bombardment of discord amongst the cadets. National Headquarters is not solving any problems with the addition of Senior Chief Petty Officer and Master Chief Petty Officer ranks. Although this may motivate junior cadets to continue their efforts to progress through the program, this proposal will not correct the imperfections of senior cadet leadership within our organization. The cadets that will achieve the ranks of Senior or Master Chief Petty Officer are simply a perversion of the original responsibility's appointed to the Chief Petty Officers.
The issue of poor leadership can not merely be solved by adding more ranks. Charles Petrarca, Brigadier General, U.S. Army (Ret.), once said that, “to be the leader of an organization, you must be it’s biggest servant.” This message should resound through all cadet Chiefs, as their sole purpose is to serve the junior cadets with mindful instruction, and to “pass the torch” to the next Chief Petty Officers of the U.S Naval Sea Cadet Corps. Because of this, the rank of Chief Petty Officer has become an end goal of many cadets. After achieving this rank, some cadets will choose to be good leaders, and continue their hard work for the betterment of the junior cadets below them. Others seem to be satisfied with simply holding the title, and then not carrying the responsibilities of holding the title. This objectification of the rank title, will be the demise of the Sea Cadet program and its integrity. With the addition of even more senior enlisted ranks to the Sea Cadet ranking system, rather than focusing on the amelioration of their respective unit and our organization as a whole, Chiefs will have a conflict of interest. They will be more inclined to rank up, as opposed to being a respectful and responsible leader to their subordinates.
With the addition of Senior and Master Chief Petty Officer’s ranks, the senior cadet leadership will be focused more on their individual performance and obtaining the next rank up, as opposed to ensuring that proper and effective leadership qualities are passed down through tradition, and instilled within the spirit of the future leaders of this exceptional family.
If you agree with these statements, please sign this petition to veto this potentially harmful decision, and maintain the sacred heritage of the Navy’s Core values of Honor, Courage, and most importantly, Commitment!
