Drug overdose deaths have skyrocketed over the last decade. In August of 2012 The Stop Overdose Stat (SOS) Act, HR 6311 was introduced into Congress. In part, this bill would allow for broader distribution of a medication called noloxone, an antidote to opioid drug overdoses including prescription pain medication, and heroin. Broader distribution of naloxone, beyond public health officials would save lives and could be integrated into a comprehensive approach towards drug reform.
