Divest Turkey: Incirlik Air Base, Izmir Air Station, and Team DoD-Turkey
The Issue
This is a history which traces its origins back to before the first World War. The Ottoman Empire entered the war in 1914 as a member of the Axis Powers. Defeated by the western Allies in 1918, they re-branded themselves as the Republic of Turkey. What Turkey's representatives and leaders staunchly deny is what happened during the years of 1914, climaxing in 1915, and continuing through the early 1920's.
They have, do, and will continue to deny the Armenian Genocide - the attempted extermination of an entire ethnic group of people who survived, despite their attempts.
One of the main reasons they are able and willing to continue such disgrace is due to the political and military ties they share with the United States, using it as leverage to ensure the United States remains faithful to the Turkish version of history.
This a call to the United States House of Representatives and Senate to divest all military bases from within Turkish borders. Specifically this includes the bases known as: Incirlik Air Base, Izmir Air Station, and Team DoD-Turkey.
As long as the United States depends on Turkey's goodwill to allow the operation of military bases within Turkish borders, the United States will never be free to license the acts of the Ottoman Empire, modern Turkey, as what they were - the attempted systematic extermination of an entire people: Genocide.
