Approve Medtronic Paradigm Veo insulin pump w/ continuous monitoring system

Medtronic Paradigm Veo insulin pump, with continuous monitoring system, is the closest thing to the artificial pancreas on the market to date! The pump has not been approved by the Food and Drug administration because of the automatic shut off safety feature. This safety feature suspends the automatically delivered amount of insulin when the patients blood sugar is too low for the body to function normally. Through research of my own, most articles on the subject refer to this safety feature as being the reason for the pump not being approved yet. Reasons given are that this feature presents the possibility for the patients blood sugar to go to high. This is a pointless argument. When a Type 1's blood sugar goes to low, the patients liver automatically drops sugar in to the blood stream to counteract the blood sugar being too low for the body to function properly. This is called counter-regulation. Counter-regulation automatically causes a higher blood sugar after the low blood sugar. This is one of the main reasons to try and avoid low blood sugar to maintain a stable HbA1c level. Type 1 diabetics need this safety feature! A low blood sugar will kill a patient faster then continued high blood sugars will. I think, and believe that everyone would agree, that having a slightly elevated blood sugar would be better than being dead.
