As many of us have seen recently on the news, through social media and word of mouth—children are dying because the current structure of the school bussing system in this society is failing. In this last week I have watched four children be viciously murdered by drivers who are careless with their decisions while on the road. Four children who had there been stricter laws created and enforced , would still be running back to their mom and dads every day off their school busses. Unfortunately these four children and hundreds more previous to them will never get the chance to ride on a bus again, they will never get to run into school excited to learn and most importantly their futures no longer exist and their parents/the communities surrounding them are living in total devastation. We have to do better for our children. We have to make simple , yet important changes to the way the law works in regards to bussing school children.
My want out of this is to change the drop off and pick up system for busses. If a child is never forced to walk across the road and the door is always to driveway, this will prevent so many horrifying accidents and also prevent the ability for negligent drivers to hit children. They cannot be hit in the road if they are never forced to cross the road.
TURN THE BUS AROUND-ALWAYS DOOR TO DRIVEWAY.
I also believe that as important as our education system is —our children should be of more importance. If we do not have safe children on the way to school or on the way home from school, we don’t have a safe school system either. Drivers who pass a dressed school bus (lights on/stop sign out) should be criminally charged with reckless driving and child endangerment. If the laws that are currently being upheld aren’t working and children are dying , we absolutely HAVE to find a better way to protect them. It is our duty as parents, bus drivers , teachers , law enforcement and government officials over all to keep our children safe especially while in the hands of someone else/the school districts.
Please join me in asking for stricter laws to be enforced with out national bus systems so that we can work hard on preventing another senseless, absolutely preventable death of an innocent child who is just eager to learn.
