less pollution environment and passenger safety

Jeepneys in the Philippines are the most common ways of transportation and they have played a very big role in the public transportation system. Passenger vehicles are a major pollution contributor, producing significant amounts of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and other pollution. The smoke-belching jeepneys that ply Manila's traffic-choked streets around the clock are blamed for clogging the roads, compounding the dismal traffic problem and dirtying the city's air, resulting in to more pollution to the air and environment.

The more compelling reasons to phase out jeepneys is not because they pollute the air, endanger our health and contribute to global warming but because these PUVs and their drivers and operators are giving passengers badly maintained, dilapidated, dirty, unsafe and unpleasant rides.

These PUVs and their drivers and operators are giving passengers badly maintained, dilapidated, dirty, unsafe and unpleasant rides. The bad condition of jeepneys is caused by the bad attitude of drivers and operators: they don’t care. Drivers drive smoke-belching jeepneys and operators don’t fix the engines or mufflers to prevent their jeepneys from blowing black smoke into the air, on pedestrians and on passengers in other jeepneys.
